THE INTERVIEW STAGE: RYGOR’S INTERVIEW TIPS

“Happiest workplace I have experienced. Amazing support from all departments and you are never on your own. Great experienced team members are always at hand with vast amounts of knowledge and skills. Every day I learn something new within my job role from the Rygor Network.” - Carly, Service Team Leader.

Research the Company

Before your interview, take the time to research the company’s history, products, services, values, missions and culture. A thorough understanding of the business will impress your interviewer and demonstrate that you have gone beyond merely reviewing the ‘about us’ section of the company website.

Understand the Job Role

Carefully analyse the job description provided and think of examples where you have demonstrated these skills or tasks previously. By doing this, you can show the interviewer you are able to do the job. Think about how you would find your purpose and add value to your team.

Practice your Answers

The internet provides an unlimited number of common interview questions for you to practice. Included in Rygor’s Candidate Success Pack are some questions you may be asked at your interview with us. For strong responses to interview questions, adopt the STAR method, situation, task, action, and result. By structuring your answers in this context, you provide the interviewer with an in-depth insight as to why you should get the job.

Dress Appropriately

When choosing what to wear for an interview you should choose a safe, professional attire which is appropriate for the company.

Online Interview Preparation

If you are attending an online interview, take a few minutes to make sure your technology and surroundings are ready.

Check your equipment

  • - Test your camera, microphone and speakers before the interview.

  • - Ensure your device is fully charged or plugged in.

  • - Check your internet connection is stable and reliable.

  • - Familiarise yourself with the video platform you will be using (e.g. Microsoft Teams or Zoom).

  • Choose an appropriate environment

  • - Find a quiet space where you are unlikely to be interrupted.

  • - Make sure your background is tidy, professional and free from distractions.

  • - Position yourself in a well-lit area so you can be seen clearly.

  • - Avoid sitting with a bright window directly behind you, as this can affect visibility.

  • Final checks

    - Join the meeting a few minutes early.

    - Have a copy of your CV, the job description and any notes nearby.

    - Keep your phone on silent and minimise notifications on your device.

Arrive Promptly

Listen Carefully

Plan to arrive 5 minutes before your scheduled interview. This demonstrates punctuality and reliability. While it is important not to be late, arriving too early may disrupt the interviewer’s schedule, so it is crucial to be mindful of both your own timing and the interviewer’s.

Show the interviewer you are actively listening by not interrupting, maintaining appropriate eye contact, using positive, open body language, such as nodding and smiling, and rephrasing what the interviewer has said to you to demonstrate understanding.

Follow Up

Send a thank you email to the interviewer within 24 hours of your interview. This gesture will show politeness and your enthusiasm for the role, leaving a positive impression to the interviewer.
